The opportunities are all around you in Quint; you simply cannot ignore them!
What were your first experiences at Quint? My first day at Quint was at the famous Quint’s boot camp in Kuala Lumpur. The boot camps are organized twice a year at regional headquarters for development of consultants. I joined the company just in time to participate in the summer boot camp. I remember my very first impression when I walked into the training room – true diversity. Consultants of different nationalities and of different age groups all gathered around a table discussing how our then-signature simulation game “Control-IT” should be facilitated. I thought, with my background of having been raised in a foreign country and my experience of working in a different industry, I was quite unique; but I was wrong. During this boot camp week, I learned the fundamentals of being a consultant at Quint. When I look back, I think I was extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to meet everyone in the team in my first week since I discovered from day one that as a consultant, I will not be working alone or just within my country unit but I will have access to support from all over Asia, and around the world.
Tell something about one of your tasks? One of the major projects I have been involved in is a project to support a client in Hong Kong to achieve ISO20000 certification. This opportunity was dropped in my lap unexpectedly after having worked in the company for five months. I was partnered with a Senior Consultant to carry out an assessment of their service management maturity and generate a gap analysis report and improvement plan. Based on the assessment outcome, we started in the following phases, a series of workshops, process designs and documentation reviews for each of the processes defined in the ISO 20000 standard. I was thrilled to have the responsibility of working with clients mostly by myself but at the same time, there were ample of instances when I was unsure of how I should proceed in managing the project. Quint being the fountain of experience, I had no trouble finding people who could advise me and allay the concerns I had. This is a fraction of the experience I have had so far with the company. There are many projects going on and the opportunities are all around you in Quint; you simply cannot ignore them!
How did your work benefit the client? Every time I visit the client, I always discuss their latest performance results. Over the months we were able to see distinctive improvements such as reduction in number of Incidents, number of failed Changes, etc. Although these figures and facts are important, one of the major benefits that this client has gained from this project seems to be the confidence of being the IT organizations that can value add to business departments. This did not come about out of the blue but from repetitive review and improvement actions. I also congratulated the client for winning the title for Best Change Management in the Asia 2007 MIS Excellence Award for the activities associated with the project.
How did it influence you? Through this project, I came in contact with and made use of as many relevant IP’s of Quint as possible – the AURRA approach, Quint Quest, IPW-model… It was good that I started to be involved in this project at an early stage of my career with Quint since I was able to not only read and study about them but actually put them into practice. I now know that the knowledge and experience we have in the company are not only effective in theory but they can deliver actual results. My growing cravings for good dim-sums must also be considered a very positive influence on this project. |
