European benchmark results in decision not to outsource

Challenges
With a non-standardized ICT infrastructure scattered over Europe and Asia with 35 locations in 30 countries, and a non-standardized and decentralized IT environment, our industrial customer faced a challenge in controlling costs for IT Services. The customer wondered if global outsourcing of IT services desktop computing could be beneficial in terms of cost reduction, improvement of quality of service and standardization & innovation of the infrastructure.

Solutions
Quint performed a high level benchmark of the IT services desktop computing platform to provide the company with insight in the potential financial benefits from outsourcing. Based on the benchmark study, it became clear that the customer could make a small reduction in current costs through outsourcing. The longer term savings could only be delivered by standardizing the environment.

Results
Based on the benchmark study, the Global IT Manager decided not to outsource the IT services desktop computing, but initiated an internal improvement program
