In Europe, the Lisbon Summit was the key in revitalizing the economy by pushing, facilitating and stimulating innovation. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an important means to innovation. In the United States, ICT accounts for 70% of the productivity growth, whereas in Europe the contribution of ICT is only 40%.
The European Commission (EU) announced that it will invest €1 billion in research on ICT to boost productivity and create job in the EU.
