The line between the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry is blurring.
Large pharmaceutical organizations evolve technologies that incorporate new, biotechnology science. For the big pharmaceutical companies, building a network of relationships with smaller companies seems to be the dominant strategy rather than simply acquiring these smaller companies.
At the same time, pharmaceutical companies are increasingly suffering from the lost of their reputation especially with numerous cases of withdrawn products. Increasingly, improving this image is high on their agenda. Yet the convergence of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology is by no means a risk-free route, and may very well pose new threats to their reputation.
