Organizations often feel the need to increase the business value of IT but in practice, they often have insufficient attention for this topic. IT organizations are frequently weighed down by the pressure from within the business of having to save on costs and for delivering their service better or faster. They find that pressure hard to escape. This is caused by lack of insight into the impact of the unique properties of IT on the business economics. This article shows how organizations can achieve tangible results in the shape of business value of IT. By choosing the economic perspective (turnover versus costs) the utilization of IT becomes the focal point of attention. As an IT responsible it is of the utmost importance to let the result for the business determine the priorities and organizational set-up within IT.
