Real-time Monitoring of Mobility Scooters and Azure Data Hub at Welzorg Nederland

Allowing the company to store and analyze all types of data received by its customers in one central location

The Challenge

Welzorg Nederland was looking for a way to offer better and more timely customer support – something it found difficult due to incomplete information when users reported problems with scooters. Most issues that occurred could be fixed remotely, or without the need for a mechanic, but the problem wasn’t always reported properly. Welzorg knew these issues could be resolved if it had access to real-time data from its scooters, and so had planned to create a Smart Mobility Scooter fleet that was able to collect and analyze data to offer better and timely maintenance at lower costs. Naturally, Eraneos was asked to create a solution that could assist the company in doing just that.

The Azure Data Hub allows Welzorg to accelerate its data strategy and implement more complex machine learning and AI solutions.

The approach

We got started by building Welzorg an Azure Data Hub where it could store, clean, and analyze all types of data received by the customer in a central place. Capable of providing insight to stakeholders via several dashboards, the Data Hub used Azure services such as the IoT Hub for device management, Cosmos DB to store the data, and Azure Event Grid messaging functionality.

It quickly became apparent there were many more potential use cases with streaming data from Welzorg’s scooter fleet, so the next step was to simply connect the Data Hub to the scooters.

Welzorg Nederland is part of Louwman Group, one of the largest automotive distributors in Europe, supplying millions of customers with vehicles from brands such as Toyota, Lexus, Morgan, and Suzuki. The company specializes in the supply and maintenance of mobility aids and scooters for people with physical disabilities and seniors and has done for 25 years. Its goal is to increase the mobility and self-reliance of its customers with the right care aid and service.

The result

This ambitious project was a collaboration of several parties, with Eraneos putting all the parts together. Thanks to its Smart Mobility Scooters, Welzorg Norland is already seeing positive results since it can now offer better and more timely assistance. Welzorg is now able to receive:

  • Insight into possible problems based on error codes meaning it can immediately help customers solve errors, remotely.
  • Insight into the condition of the battery, for example, if there is a problem with the receiving part of the charging plug.
  • Insight into how the scooter is used and if it’s charged properly, allowing the firm to give advice to users and prevent problems. This way, mobility scooter users now experience fewer technical problems.

Let’s create sustainable change together.
