"A Forerunner is Someone or Something that comes before Another, a Sign that Something is Going to Happen" The DASA Forerunner organizations next to Quint Wellington Redwood, are: Altkom Akademia, Auslyn Group, Computrain, Capgemini Educational Services, Deltamine, Electric Cloud, Foster Melliar, Gibraltar Software, Glasspaper, Global Knowledge, IMS Asia, Inedo, the International Software Quality Institute (iSQI), ITera, ITpreneurs, ITSM Professional Consulting, JFrog, Koenig, Makeit, Pink Elephant, RealDolmen, Simagine Business Simulations, SMIX, UXC Consulting, Wakaru, and Xebia are all members of the DevOps Agile Skills Association.
DASA has been founded as an independent and open platform. These DASA member organizations represent IT thought leadership from both the consulting and training areas in over a dozen countries across six continents. DASA believes that this is only the beginning. DASA is creating an open platform to discuss, develop, challenge, and co-create the baseline for what skills and competencies organizations require today and will need in the future across relevant cultural, philosophical and yet very real movements within IT and IT Interfacing departments within organizations of all types across the world.
DevOps and Agile go mainstream
A recent report by Gartner predicts that DevOps will evolve from a niche strategy to a mainstream strategy in 2016. And it is expected that a quarter of the Global 2000 organizations will adopt DevOps. This means that companies all over the world will be looking for talent with knowledge and understanding of DevOps.
We believe that DevOps and Agile offer a powerful set of principles, guidelines and tools to improve the ability of businesses and nonprofit organizations to serve their stakeholders. Essentially, DevOps and Agile are about delivering value to customers in the form of working IT services that are improved as and when needed by the client. They combine a new way of organizing IT based on intense collaboration, with technical excellence and new cultural norms, to produce high-performance IT service delivery. Using principles derived from Lean - and Lean IT - DevOps and Agile form a powerful force that drives IT in the 21st century.
DASA: defining roles, creating qualifications and inspiring IT Professionals
Hiring resources with the necessary skills for DevOps is becoming a pressing need. DASA believes that by defining roles and creating a universal qualification program for DevOps and Agile skills development, it will help organizations identify the needed competencies required to fulfill the new roles created by the DevOps movement. By doing so, training and qualification programs can help those involved to acquire necessary skills to succeed in DevOps. More importantly, by bringing thought leadership to this area, DASA aims to inspire IT professionals to serve as change champions by sharing and practicing what they have learned.
“Our goal is to build a widely respected brand for DevOps competencies development,” says Maurice Boon, CEO of Quint Wellington Redwood Group. “By creating a relevant qualifications program that reflects the competencies development related challenges facing IT professionals involved with DevOps, we aim to help speed up the adoption of DevOps within organizations,” he adds.
DASA: Embracing Digital Disruption by Adopting DevOps Practices
Modern enterprises will not stay in business without a drastic change in how they position, perceive and use IT capabilities. "Successful companies learn to use IT as a strategic advantage to move faster. Adopting DevOps practices greatly improves the business focused orientation of IT, and provides a more rapid speed of delivery through rigorous automation. These are essential building blocks for a successful Digital Transformation”, says Guido Schoonheim, Managing Director of Xebia Netherlands. “We are honored to contribute our DevOps Thought Leadership to DASA. Together with other DASA members, we hope to professionalize the state of IT using DevOps practices."
DASA Membership: Be the change. Fuel the transition to DevOps
We welcome any organization to become a member of DASA and participate in defining DevOps roles and the learning objectives for those roles. “Currently, there is no commonly defined qualification program for DevOps skills development on the market. Agreement on the necessary roles and competencies will be beneficial to both organizations and IT professionals. "We encourage everybody to participate in building a program that helps IT professionals and organizations to adopt Agile and DevOps principles," says Sukhbir Jasuja, CEO of ITpreneurs.
DevOps Agile Skills Association (DASA) is a non-profit organization that provides an open, global community for DevOps and Agile skills development. It is organized as a community-driven platform, open to participating member organizations, to help define role-based competencies and learning curricula. To realize its broader purpose, DASA aims to:
- Generate interest in and awareness of the need for skills development
- Define a relevant and vendor-neutral DevOps qualifications program for professionals
- Promote open source qualifications for DevOps Skills
- Ensure a baseline quality for training programs delivered to the market
- Map members' training program content against the role-based competencies baseline
